I dont have a spare headlight. This is happening to both headlights at the same time. When they move they both move together and the both fail together. Nether one moves on it own if thats what your getting at.

i have the self leveling headlights but also a switch wheel to raise and lower them myself why is this

I have the xenon headlights witch don't come with a manual adjustment switch. HID XENON I believe only come with a auto self levelling sensors

Can't see it beening a headlight fault as both are doing the same thing!

It sounds to me (as J1MBO said) its intermitant fault with one of the sensors or with the wiring.

I was given a set of xenon headlights with a stepper motor failure. The symptoms were exactly as you describe.

My hid xenons are retro fitted, I do not have self levelling, when I turn my lights on I hear and see them adjust up then down automatically, maybe they do not adjust when you turn them on, maybe they do the same as mine but then yours auto adjust whilst driving.

Mods to do - Powerfolds - Better ICE - Headlight washers - Heated seats - cruise - And loads more i can't remember.

Cant see anything wrong with the wiring and i have no idea how to check the two sensors

You will need to plug in another headlight as the motor is inside the headlight unit and not normally accessible
