indeed. Tiff and Quinten went years ago. That was the real Top Gear.

Clarkson, May and Hammond were just over privelaged chums on a jolly.

The recent series was poor- get 3 randowm cars that have some relation and do something daft in them.

The programme has been begging for a revamp for donkeys years. At least Evans has a decent sense of humour- by that i mean one that isnt based on a derogatory comment about a section of society that is marginalised( the poor, gay people, non whites etc etc etc).

And you reckon Clarkson had this?
Not from what I've read.

The thing that tees me off about Chris Evans is that he's overly and annoyingly enthusiastic in everything he does, especially in his breakfast show.

Where Evans will fail drastically, imo, is if he's expected to compete with Clarkson's outlandish and outdated views (which I loved).
That's never going to happen and might end up a big disappointment.

That said, I suspect I'm getting outdated in my views and the younger audience might just see him as a better option.

Regardless of my views, Evans does love his motors.

Well after watching TFI Friday, last week Evens talked about not being the new presenter. That stuck in my throat a bit

Yep, agreed.
He said the same just a day or two back on R2.
I know it's confidentiality and all that, but the point blank denial was annoying.

Never been a top gear fan myself. It does appeal to many, I mean 4 pages already on here in such a short time says a lot.

But for what it's worth, considering the following of Clarkson & co, for what ever reason I think Evans with his limited talents is plain crazy to try to fill such big shoes.
It can only end in tears.

Harry.

Depends what you call the "real" TG, imo.

The fact is, it became a real money-spinner for the Beeb when Clarkson and his mate changed the format.

Clarkson punched someone in the face because a hotel couldn't provide him with a steak.

Apparently this is preferable to

  • keeping contractural confidentiality
  • taking over from someone on a radio programme
  • making a few mistakes on a live radio show
And since when was Clarkson a "car buff"? There are more posters on here with a better claim to that appellation.

So Top Gear will now be like watching TFI on a Sunday then.

We just need CH5 to sign JC, RH & JM for a new car show to be aired on the same Sunday.

The BBC wont have a chance...

All will become clear at some point, if the beeb had wanted a real car buff to bring TG back then I'm sure Jay Leno would have done it for the right money, now I would have eagerly watched that, Clarkson and co may not have been perfect but Top Gear stopped being a car show years ago, it was an entertainment programme that earned the beeb millions and millions more than they ever paid out to the crew. I doubt that will ever be the case again.

As said previously, TG was getting stale and I can't help thinking that they were rapidly running out of ideas.
Personally, I think Chris Evans is no more annoying than JC and he may just bring some fresh ideas to the show, we'll see

In its present state, I think TG had a limited life span anyway so, nowt lost really

Wogan's breakfast show was in desperate need of a 'freshen up' and, for me, Evans has transformed it to something I can actually listen too, so hopefully TG will benefit too.
