Norton maybe blocking Internet Explorer as a rule. The only way to test really is to uninstall Norton to if it's that, then reinstall if it's working OK as this will default the programme.

Anyway you may have access to the internet but a lot of things can block it. A firewall can stop it, the gateway or DNS entries can stop it. Anyway try ruuning this from the run box

http://212.58.246.93

This should open www.bbc.co.uk

If is does, then you have a DNS issue (Domain Name Service). If it doesn't then something else is blocking it. You can try ping 212.58.246.93 from a command prompt and see if you get a reply. To get a cmd prompt type cmd in the search box and hit enter.

anyway hopes this is a little bit of diagnostic info helps.
Just to show that I'm about to push the enter button.

Cool

Going back to control panel to uninstall Norton. If this fails then look for smoke on the horizon. Will I have set fire to this infernal machine.

Many thanks to all those who have done their level best to help me.

I've run out of thanks buttons. But now back online. I owe you all at least a coffee or two.
