Yesterday I picked up a replacement rear passenger door for my Contemporary Se, then SWMBO dragged me 😖.. I’m praying for decent weather next weekend, so I can fit it..

A garden project for me, too.

I have just assembled and commissioned this bad boy :

Another engine to look after in the Dorset Bob household.

I will be doing the first oil change at 5 hours then 50 hours or annually (whichever is the sooner), as per the manual.

However, I could always follow some information, on this forum, and not bother to change it until it has covered 15,000 miles, going around the garden.

Now that's a tool! Better than the crappy electric one I bought from Screwfix last year. It can just about handle a lolly stick.

I'm a very jealous man!

It does very big "99s" Steve. Don't ask the price, on a hot show day.

According to the bumf that came with it, the machine can process up to 1500kgs per hour.

I would change it every 50 hours or once per year. In one of my previous lives. My Family and I along with the odd friend. Rebuilt a 7 1/4”, 5”, &31/2” miniature Railway in our local park total length of the continuous loop was 468yards which back in 1973/4 made it the longest continuous above ground level miniature of its kind in Scotland.
The Council got to run it Easter to September whilst the model club ran it on the first Sunday and preceding Saturday of the month. Also at any time the council were not running it.
As part of the arrangement we built them to 060 locomotives which were powered by Briggs and Stratton 2 1/4 hp engines driving a lay shaft with a slipping V belt drive to the back axel. The three wheels on each side were connected with connecting rods.
To engage drive you pushed a lever forward which pushed a idler wheel into the slipping V belt taking up the slack and putting the belt in tension. To stop you pulled the same lever back disengaging the drive and pulling a brake belt onto a breaking pulley. Very simple nothing to go wrong just add fuel and change the oil once a week in the summer.
These little locomotives could pull six coaches around the track with four adults on each coach down a 1:50 hill to the reverse curve at the pond then a climb of 1:100 from there all the way back around to the station. Journey time of just over two mins to cover the quarter mile track.
They ran well with no problems for two years then some clever person decided they only needed their oil changed every two months sadly the little engines took exception to the lack of care and within six months both locos suffered engine failure. The new council boss decided to put the locomotives into their grass cutting machine service centre they were only seen for one season after that.
Oil changes in little static air cooled engines are very important and it is not like they hold a lot of oil. Look after your equipment and it won’t let you down.
