Can you run internet explorer directly from the command prompt?
might be worth trying to run this and see if you can load pages directly
type this into the command prompt as you see it including the " marks and the web address (www.google.com is just an example webaddress)

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.google.com

Go to your start page and type CONT, the ribbon should appear and select CONTROL PANNEL from it.
In control panel select PROGRAMS AND FEATURES.
press the DATE header at the top of the date column and look down the most recent entries for one which was installed just before you had an issue, it may be marked as an IE plugin or just a name like YAHOO or google taskbar etc...
highlight it and click UNINSTALL

restart internet explorer and see what happens...

if nothing in the list then it may be part of a Microsoft update in which case search on google for how to reinstate windows to a previous state...

Might be better to try "%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

Windows 8, orrible operating system, but that is just my opinion.

Anyway you may have access to the internet but a lot of things can block it. A firewall can stop it, the gateway or DNS entries can stop it. Anyway try ruuning this from the run box

http://212.58.246.93

This should open www.bbc.co.uk

If is does, then you have a DNS issue (Domain Name Service). If it doesn't then something else is blocking it. You can try ping 212.58.246.93 from a command prompt and see if you get a reply. To get a cmd prompt type cmd in the search box and hit enter.

anyway hopes this is a little bit of diagnostic info helps.

If I were you, the first thing I'd try is the command line that I posted above - that will launch Internet Explorer without any add-ons.

If that doesn't work, I'd suspect that IE itself is corrupted - your problem isn't "just" not being able to browse, it's that your internet browser isn't loading properly.

If the above doesn't work, download the Chrome installer onto a memory stick on another device, then run it on your computer. I've stuck the installation file here if you need it: http://tinyurl.com/R75chrome

It doesn't look like the full ie programme is installed or the default is set to the app version.
Can you go into add/remove programmes and photo what version of Internet Explorer is listed in there?

Last entry was Norton Internet Security. If I uninstall this will I lose the security system?
