Well I will vote for UKIP if it gets us out of that money pit they call the European Union, and allows us to deport terrorists/murderers/rapists etc.

I think you’re referring to the ECHR’s Human Rights Act, which is not actually part of the EU at all- despite what the Daily Mail might lead you to believe...

I agree that the EU gets a LOT wrong, but withdrawing would be suicide. We need to face it, the UK isnt capable of being an independent world power any more.

The problem is most people dont realise that getting rid of much of the EU laws would make them personally worse off, both socially and financially. They think the human rights act and working time directive etc only protects 'spongers and criminals'. How wrong they are.

Im all for European reform, but UKIP are simply insane. They miss the target by miles.

Absolute tosh if I'm honest, one of the biggest reasons that we are losing our standing in the world is exactly because we are in the EU.

There are lots of other countries around the world that aren't in the EU and manage OK on their own.

Yeah but they arent in the G8, and wont be. We are not the US or China, we have little oil, and no other natural resources to trade. The world isnt interested in what we have to offer.
We COULD compete in manufacturing if we cut wages by 50% and remove all worker protections... How do you fancy that? This isnt 1900.

What standing in the world? Half hates us for being in league with the US, and half hates us for being a colonial bully. The only standing we ever had was as a military power, thats gone now.

The only thing the UK has to offer now, is Benefits, so its not surprising.

We sold everything we had to overseas benefactors. I cannot think of one large company that is actually "British".

Firstly, you don't need to compete with the rest of the world by manufacturing things for less money.

Secondly, Japan is in the G8 and not in the EU, and has a large manufactuing base, not of cheap goods, but of quality goods. I'm not saying we should model ourselves on them, and admittedly their economy has its issues, but I think I'd rather have their economy than that of Greece, Spain, Iceland and Portugal.

I don't have an issue with people having the opinion to want to be in the EU on its own merits, but this idea that we would never manage to any reasonable level on our own is rather naive and somewhat depressing.

If we could lose the defeatest, might as well give up now attitude, you never know what's possible.

Despite everything Japan is way better off than we are and is still in trouble. Its forging alliances with Korea and Malaysia to be a very strong eastern power.

Just because its depressing it doesn't mean its not true.

Well, thanks so much for the benefit of your measured political analysis and erudite learned wisdom. All very edifying considering you manage to insult soooo many ordinary people. And without even trying, I'm sure! Still, that's your privilege in this hard-won democ.... Oh, nearly wrote it!
