Just looked at my spare rack as one of mine is loose I think.
If it is just loose on the thread and not worn then you may be able to undo the small and large gator clips, pull the gator right back against the track rod end lock nut and just about get a small pair of stilllies on the large diameter of the bearing cup and tighten it manually, or even get a punch on it to turn it till tight... I don't think marking it will do it any harm at all.

Of course if the ball end and cup are worn then you are knackered and you have to replace it.
I am doing mine on the D/S in the next few weeks and will do a how to if I can.

Lefty loosey both sides to remove track rod arm! Apart from the siezed track rod lock nuts the hardest part was getting the boots off and refitting new ones. If original the boot is held on by plastic clips, all i will say is room is very limited

Cheers, but I'll be getting my mechanic to do the work along with new wishbones and rear bushes. I really hope after this work my car will be smooth and quiet!
