Default Here's some...

I just got these out of the box I keep them in, there's a Ladies watch missing, a Silver Summit one that I've loaned out to a lady going to a function. There's Sekonda's, Saxon's, Smiths, Trafalgar, Avia, Omega, Seiko, Casio, Timex, Accurist, Fossil, Waltham, Zurich, Slazenger, a Zeitner Divers watch, Ellese...I enjoy them, I might not wear them all but, they're not on the tip and I'm happy to have saved a few.

Nice collection. I need to take some pics of mine. (working nights this week so a bit tricky.)

Why on earth are Omega's so expensive? I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but they don't look any better (to me) than a Seiko?

Great that it has such history to you, going back that far as well!
Thanks. Great Grandad was a typical Victorian gent - there's a sepia photo of him with hand on shovel (steam train fireman) next to his engine apparently named 'Kettle' (too close up to identify the engine unfortunately) and with trademark silver handlebar moustache, flat 'at, and bow legged so he couldn't catch a pig in an alley. Probably Ricketts. It's curious that nobody smiles in Victorian photos - either a hard life or wariness of the technology! Perhaps it could be the 9 kids he had to feed - no benefits then!

I'd never seen one of those clocks before either. Only one pillar is serrated and with no winding to worry about, you just lift the body to the top, over-winding (that famous misnomer) can't happen. There's no 'movement' to speak of, just a lay shaft running two wheels. I also inherited at the same time his beautiful Italian mandolin - a great treasure.

It's all down to marketing.

If something is cheap and affordable, it's not sought after or valued. Make it expensive, and the desirability increases......... particularly with luxury items.

Omega's aren't the worst culprits as far as I'm concerned. I can never get my head around why people pay a fortune for Tag's. They usually have a generic cheap as chips quartz movement.

I tend to look out for unfashionable names. I have a few Oriosa Divers watches - they usually have very good Swiss auto movements in stainless steel cases, but sell for a fraction of the price trendy names fetch.

Yeah, I understand, but still can't get my head around how they have achieved it.

Tag too, they are expensive and had no idea most are quartz.
I still want an automatic poljot. I need to save up. I can't find one I like with a steel strap. I don't object to leather, but to me the strap is part of the watch and as leather wears out, it takes away from the watch.

I am hoping to get a nice automatic watch, a new one.
I really want a Poljot, but cost is a bit off putting and they all seem to have leather straps which isn't really practical for me.
So, unless anyone has any suggestions, I am thinking Rotary or Seiko.
I don't want to spend more than £300, would really like a chronograph, or a subtle skeleton watch. Even if it is just a glass back.
I would like a brand with some history.

Any suggestions?
