Cant say i have heard of one leaking but there is a first time there are 2 clips shaped like a ......w on both pipes up under the floorwell you have to remove thease for lossening the pipes then rmove the 2 clips pull apart and within the pipe-end is 2 "o" rings....the matrix should slide out .....if the rings have perished you will have to replace as well......dont forget that not to pull the 2 pipes out of the actual matrix as i have heard of someone trying to pull them out it comes with a x2- 12" pipes already atatched to the matrix.....oh and you can clap both pipes undder the bonnet not to loose to much coolent

That is a BRILLIANT idea. My toolbox is a crescent wrench and a multi-tool, so I can't easily drain the coolant.

I didn't understand the bit about clapping pipes. They look to be aluminium and have adjustment knobs marked "L" and "R" where they are easily accessible under the bonnet.

What about getting a big bucket, a couple of corks or stoppers the right size and stopping the flow as I separate the pipes at the O-ring joint?

No, those air the pipes for the air-con coolant.

Instead of flushing from under the bonnet i think it would just as easy to remove the matrix and give it a good de scale and flush. I have done two now and had no problems removing or replacing except getting the pipes back together can be a bit of pain.

Would recomend replacing the O rings, however i got away with it on the one in my ZT. The will be coolant loss and to risk soaking your carpets with OAT i would drain the system and have a small container to catch what comes out of the matrix pipes.
