Thanks for all your help, I've managed to sort it out now.
Basically attached all the wires as per my photos before except swapped the video lead over. As I said I wanted to keep everything as original as possible so rather than splice into the cars loom I soldered the power from the DVB-T to a 3A fused aux plug. This can now be plugged in or removed whenever I like. I spliced into this the power for the aerial and it's worked great. I did have to swap the video leads from the TIYC adapter as there was no picture initially. I've filled an 8gb USB drive with music and films. One thing I have found is that the .avi file played a treat but I had to change the format to NTSC to display it correctly, though when I did I lost sound. The freeview itself plays back set to PAL. Gonna have a bit more of a play around with it tomorrow and try getting sound back on movies.
