In my humble opinion, better to have someone that's active on the forum (who might not be 100% approved of), who will get things moving, rather than just have an area stagnant. Seems to me the areas with more meets generally have more active members because of the meets and social side.
It is a very big area, the region covers Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire 6 counties in all. Last year 2 people mentioned to me that i would make a good regional secretary. But I am not sure I would fit in to the criteria set by the club.

It would also not be easy to find a place that we could meet up, that is central to most people. That allows fettling of cars, overnight camping and caravaning and is a decent watering hole with good amenities.

It might be an idea to divide into two areas so more manageable and be slightly less , ambitious in terms of type of meets most of us generally can only devote one day of part of to meets & as you yourself said had to find sites for nano meets !!.

I have been looking for 18 months with little success but now we have 3 RS,s for London and counties the number of meets has gone up significantly.

I arrange a meet I took over from Mr Shed it isnt that difficult really so maybe you or another member could approach a suitable venue and have a go or even share the organizing maybe a barbecue might be nice and allow family gto take part ok thats my tenpennorth good luck

Anthony, you are correct it is a large area and quite rural in places, so some distance between towns/cities.

For now I think forget nano meets, just look at getting members together for a few hours, meal and a natter kind of thing. Bigger meets will then follow.

Even without an RS, if someone like yourself wanted to setup a meet at a nice pub I cannot see the club having an issue. Just make it clear that it is not an official meet, so not covered by club insurance, etc. Think most meets are worded like that to be honest.

I think individual members organising local-ish meets is the way to go for now, unless someone wants to step up and become the official RS.

There isn't much point in being an Official RS to be honest, the forum doesn't offer liability insurance, you still have to put a disclaimer on the meets, from talking with other RS's or indeed ex ones, any equipment bought is bought by local members.

Plus if you are independent, it means you can team up with other clubs and not have this forum or any other frown on you

Owners meeting up is important, not the banner its held under in my opinion.

I agree, we need to get the members together so we become established as an east midlands group. Before we can move on to bigger and better things.

I wonder how we managed before someone decided they need a title Meets have, & I suspect, will always be organised by like minded individuals, in whatever area, so if someone fancies organising a meet, do it

I was going to suggest the same, given the success of his Sherwood Forest meet but like it has been pointed out, that is the benefit of being a RS if the OC doesn't offer any support ?
