Whats the best tyre for the MGZT and why? - Page 3

When i bought my ZT it had The factory Michelin Pilot Sports on the rear and Dunlop SP's on the Front. The dunlops were near enought on the limit though so i replaced them with Conti Sport Contact 3's and i was happy with them, not cheap though, The advantages of being able to get partworn tyres for free

. I've got another set of 4 sport contact 3's here ready for my next ZT all with 8mm tread left

You can get the Nankang NS2's for just over £60 there. They don't fit 'em though.

Not tried the nankings but I have had no problems with the Potenza's in either wet or dry, and they are very quiet!

I had Khumo's on before and they were very noisey but gripped well. The noise did my head in and I had them changed.

Nankangs are cheap, they last a long time and the tyre roar is kept to a minimum....however as they age wet weather grip falls off dramatically, I have some hair raising moments cornering on worn in Nankangs...so bad that I changed them to Toyos well before the wear markers.

I Agree with froggy regarding low price and quiet road noise levels but if you drive in the wet...lets just say you get what you pay for.
I have had 5 full new sets now...2 sets of contis and 2 sets of Nankangs laterly the Toyos

The Contis and Toyos are dramatically better that the Nankangs in the wet...especially cornering.

I probably notice the difference more as I drive big miles, I have some competition driving experience and I enjoy spirited driving sometimes, wet and dry.

:xmas: Now I'm really confused. I have Michellins all round and they are pretty good. I haven't tried anything else though.

I do a lot of hard wet driving on dodgy country lanes so wet performance is critical.

Not sure what to try next now as the front two are getting low!

The best advice is to stick with what you know and have. If you're using Michelin Pilots for example then they are well worth sticking with. A cheaper tyre does not necessarily mean it's automatically going to be inferior as shown in the posts in this thread but on the 190 my personal choice would be Continental or Michelin with Pirelli and Goodyear as other good choices too.
