People accept anything from government and local councils these days. How about protest marches for no charges? Seems that we could learn something from those that have been demonstrating against the Donald. Just a thought.
What, like the fuel blockades in 2000, when it was feared that petrol would rise above 80p/litre...?

Not sure the Trump analogy works. Ever since he won the election a section of the American population has been whinging on but the endless demonstrations have delivered exactly nothing. The courts seem a tad more effective.

I think the writing has been on the wall for diesels over the last 5 years and those who have not yet taken the hint are likely to be dished out some financial pain to encourage them to stop them poisoning the old and children. Not that I feel strongly about this you understand!

As a coach driver I can tell you that there are major clampdowns on coaches, the engines are rated on emissions as in a 'Euro 1' engine is not as clean as a 'Euro 6'

London has a restriction that Euro 4 and below are not allowed in the city, and now this coming year countries such as France, Germany Belgium etc are now saying that coaches must display a sticker in the windscreen showing it has a suitable engine (think its Euro 5 and up) if not compliant than a huge fine

The Lightning was still in service during the early part of my RAF career. Rumour had it that if the reheat was lit after a mid-air refuel it would still be accelerating when the tanks ran dry again. Probably an urban myth, but I wouldn't be astounded if it was true.

They will tax us off the road eventually.

Wasn't that long ago they told everyone to buy a diesel as it was "the future".

Diesel was the future, for TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE.

It should never have been the answer to cars, LPG unquestionably was, and the government messed those grants and schemes up massively.

Look at what Japan did with LPG and petrol taxi, small vans and so on. yes its massively polluted still, but how bad would it be if they relied on diesel like we do?

I love diesel cars truly however.

I remember the Buck Inn at Chop Gate in North Yorkshire had a Lightening in the rear garden of the pub.

How they got it there, God only knows, but it was a great attraction, with many extra visitors, and business to the pub.

Then the council stepped in I'm told, and soon the jet was gone. Again, how they took it away, God only knows.

Do you mean the ones that are followed around by a petrol tanker.

You're right they will tax diesel punitively & restrict where you will be able to drive them sooner rather than later going by some reports. The VW debacle was the death knell for them http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/electric-ca...appear-1596077

Yes, thank you. The countries I speak about are African and Asian, as an ex trucker there are restrictions across Europe on trucks with lower Euro engines.

I have seen very old Seddon Atkinsons and ERF's in North Africa belching enough smoke to block the sun.
