Not really unusual, but pretty revolting......half a raw cod's head for breakfast in Leningrad (as it then was named). Its one eye gazing balefully up at me from the plate. What made it worse was the bottle of Vodka that I had drunk the previous evening. I lost 20 pounds in weight in the 3 weeks that I was working there! I needed to really, I must admit.

Worked in Northern China for a while....man do they eat some grim stuff....I had to ask our host to stop telling me what we were eating otherwise I would barf...if you have ever been to this part of the world you will know what I mean....
You choose your food alive and they kill/cook it in front of you. I lost a stone in a very short period of time. Pretty much anything that moves gets clobbered and eaten; this goes back to the great Chinese famine when 50 million people starved to death....given the choice of life and death...you'd probably ANYTHING too. I feel sick now.

During a working visit to Bavaria a couple of years back, on a very cold winters evening I thought I would try the Bear Stew, that would warm me up .........bigggggggg mistake.
My mind thought this is going to be just like beef steak....how wrong was I. Best described as eating pure fat with the occasional vein of meat......yuk. _____________ mykl |

Let's see:
Jellyfish (China) - not too good! Dog (Vietnam) - only found out after I'd eaten it. Ostrich (NZ & Aust) beautiful - and very good for you. Kangaroo (Aust) OK Crocodile (Taiwan) OK Bulls testicles (China) Ummm Wild Buffalo - the big ones like in the western movies (Poland) - Beautiful Possum (NZ) - pretty good. Sea Egg (NZ) YUK Wichiti Grubs (Aust) - Bearable HuHu grubs (NZ) - similar to the australian version. We eat a lot of venison here (now also called Cervena). It's a great meat and very lean, so healthy. Goes very well with a lovely Pinot Noir! I'm not sure I could recommend a wine to go with Jellyfish though! |

Roger1 & Mr. biker in a suit, I was in Hong Kong [part of china] for nearly a year & refused to ask what it was, some of the stuff they were street cooking stank and I could not go near it let alone eat it.
worst tasting thing I have tried [knowing what it was] is Whale [i worked for a Norwegian bank] and they had me in Oslo |
