Hi All, thanks for the comments/advice,

I have tried the movement in the fan and it is no different to the old one.

The fan surround cowling is exactly the same except for the location oof one bolt hole on the top of the surround.

The fan blades are the same depth and diameter as the old ones. Ther is no excessive movement in the fan bearing.

The real difference I think is the way (as has been suggested by Keith) that the fan/motor is fitted to the housing/surround.
The motor and fan sit too far forward of the housing.

I've attached a couple of photos. on the photo of the new unit you can see a screw (put in from the rad side) through the housing holding (I think) the fan motor. What holds the fan blade assembly to the motor I do not know. On the pld unit there are no screws.

The centre boss in the middle of the fan has what looks like a slot in it for a screw driver but it is in fact not slotted.

I did not have time to contact the eBay seller today but will do tomorrow.

Mike are you sure you got yours from the same seller?
Also I thought you originally said your new cowling was deeper than old one

Fan motor arrived for me from the same source this AM.

Sold as for petrol 75 (2.00 and 2.5) PGJ000100 but box marked as PGJ000110 which I think is for a diesel. No markings at all on the motor itself. I have just e mailed the seller on this point.

But is there any difference in size between the two motors ??? And could this account for Mike's problem

Seems so:

The 1.8 fan on left. Diesel and V6 version on right.
To accomodate this difference, the fan moulding itself must be different. The problem may be the use of a 1.8 fan on the deeper motor (??). The gap in the earlier photo seems to support this.

Rather think it's something to do with the "unorthodox" central boss on Mikes new one.

As Keith says, looks like an adaptor plate has been used behind the blades

If the motor on the right is the correct one for the V6 and CDT then it stands to reason the the cowling should be the 13cm depth one, and the 15cm one for the shorter left-hand one. Which would suggest that the wrong cowling has been fitted like one from the 1.8 as was said in an earlier post.
