I am no expert on this, but it seems that the likely issue is that you are not running Windows as an administrator.
Might be worth having a look here.

Good luck, I know that issues like this can be a real pain.

Thanks Bob, It won't let me do even that, the same error message. I've had this pc for almost two years and never had a problem before. Is there anything in Windows I could check?.

John, are you on Windows 7?
If so, if it was me, I would first of all look at the UAC (User Access Control)
There is some info here

Bob, I have checked that out, I don't feel confident enough to make a choice. I went into UAC and saw my user name and mistakenly removed my password. Can I just do a system restore back a couple of weeks as I had no problems until I downloaded GOG?.

Sorry John, I would not want to give you any duff info. as I am not a Windows expert.

I sympathise with you though as I know what a pain it is when these things go wrong.
Hopefully there is someone out there who has experienced an "error 5 access denied" code and knows how to fix it.

A direct online download to your computer by another installer, not on any permission list of the anti virus / anti malware/ firewall software on your computer, can be interpreted as a malware or virus installer, therefore a threat, and blocked. of a type labelled rootkit ie fed directly onto the root (master file ) to your C:/ drive.

check the settings in the firewall program you use, and whichever browser, and it's plug- ins or extensions active on it, anti virus software , anti malware programmes etc..

One of these items is preventing the installer from running.Once you find out which it is, simply grant the file / installer for your game permission to run when asked from the program that's blocking it.

My thoughts are either windows firewall if you are using it, (as it is a windows notification window in the screenshot ) , or whichever anti virus software you are running, that are stopping it, via windows security centre alerts.

TBH I would never run any program direct from a web site, with it's own installer, I prefer to download the appropriate .exe file for the program I wanted to install, and scan it with my anti virus etc.. before opening and installing.

Quite happy to advise via pm if you wish.

Snagger.

Thanks for the help, I was able to download the games manual from the site when I turned off the downloader, but not the game. I don't know enough about computers to mess with the settings, as each time I try I mess things up, so I will have to forfeit the game. Thanks to all for the help. John.
