It would be a shame to see this go.
A tribute to British Engineering, in operation from 1968 to 2000.
Certainly another example of British inventiveness and engineering, but where can it be kept?
I think the tonnage is a little higher though.

Signed. I thought they lived at a hovercraft museum somewhere on the south coast.

How could you fail to be impressed by something with a startup sequence like this?

Duly signed.

Would be sad to see more of our engineering past going by the wayside.

Let's hope she is preserved.

Signed up. Saving our engineering heritage is more important than another housing estste.

I've just signed (no. 47_ something so not going too well so far) because I too yearn after our engineering heritage (and also like a bit of a rumble for lost causes).
Frankly it's not going to be a runner, too big and really not iconic enough - yes clever and unique but apart from diy versions that were the equivalent of lawn mower racers, little more than a mere handful of 'real jobs' of various sizes ever got into meaningful operation.

Apologies for being a bit dense but if there is a museum ready to take them. What is the problem?

You are quite correct, I have just looked it up and the gross weight is 320 ton .

It is quite interesting to hear of people's memories. I never managed to cross the channel in one of these.
The only hovercrafts I have been on are the little ones on the Isle of Wight crossings!

My first channel crossing was in one of these, with my Dad's Singer Gazelle also on board:

We then drove up through Holland, Germany, Denmark and into Sweden - which was quite an adventure back in the 60s.
When I told the kids, at school, about the car being flown inside an aeroplane, the teacher told me not to tell fibs.........
