What do you intend to do with it if you trap it?

See if the bloke down the road who has them wants it, if not will contact RSPCA and get them to come for it.

Talking Found it

went to put some fresh straw down in the hen run, lifted the tarpaulin, and there was ferret sitting on top of the straw, just woken up grabbed it and put it into the squirrel trap, just waiting for RSPCA to come and get it now.

I'm very pleased to read that and also that it has been captured.Glad you don't intend to harm it.

It's upsetting when you loose what are almost pets to predetors but sadly it's nature and the ferret is just doing what comes naturally.I feed the birds and regularly find a circle of feathers on the lawn where a cat or a sparrow hawk has picked them off.

Just be as careful as you can in future, can't do any more

Glad you've managed to capture it bud.
The RSPCA will find it a new home

Default Update

RSPCA came, apparently they know who owns it. Someone local, it has already been taken to ferret rescue centre once this week, but the owner has identified where it has been escaping from, so hopefully he will take steps to ensure it doesn't get out again.
