Yayy.. Marks friend Lee called today and I now have a working Central heating system!

Apparently the bloke who called and left without fixing anything during the week, failed to refit the cover properly, so there was a high risk of fumes leaking due to that....

So my thanks to Mark d3 and to his friend Lee for a job well done...

Dunno what you were worryin about, I know all about looking for gas leaks with a candle innit.. lol..

The vacuum switch is made of plastic. Are you sure it's INSIDE the combustion chamber ??

I've never seen one inside there. ( Rather too hot I'd think. )

I think there has been some confusion, wasn't saying that James could legally change it. I was confirming as it is a safety device he couldn't legally change it.

"I understand where you are coming from but technically the fan pressure switch is a safety device, which prevents the appliance firing without the fan running, so legally, would James be allowed to replace this"

Possible poor grammar from me.

I am in complete agreement and hate DIY gas work with a vengeance. I also pass this message on to my students, whilst i'm teaching i will hammer home the point that once qualified they will be the subject specialist and so for safety reasons why let unqualified and frankly dangerous individuals get away with causing mayhem and even death where ever they go.

Colvert.
On some boilers Colvy the front case also doubles as the combustion chamber door, Ideal Classic is one example. Also it is not in the direct path of the combustion stream.

Great news James glad its sorted. Big Thanks to Mark and his mate Lee Case not put back properly, naughty naughty, i am sure that your Baxi is a negative pressure case appliance, but i'm sure that it would still make the boiler Immediately Dangerous and a possible RIDDOR. Luckily you had someone come around who was knowledgeable and registered and legal.

I had the same thing happen, the fan bearing failed due to water running done the flue pipe, (it pointed slightly up not down). Anyway net result was no boiler because the fan didn't create the vacuum to switch the boiler on.

sounds like you have the standard efficiency version this versions the high efficiency the flue should be level or with a very slight incline upwards,on the HE versions the APS is very weak due to it being repositioned behind the fan and getting to hot
