Just to finish up this thread.

Many, many thanks to Andy (Trikey). That stuff worked a treat (main component Orange peel oil - Orange Terpenes). Smells gorgeous as well.

Tried some white spirit and it worked as well. But aroma was a bit more heady. Where's the "peace man" smilie?

Technique that worked with a bit of elbow grease was to soak well then, using a wetted kitchen towel with the solvent on, rub the offending welded on sticky foam until removed. Think these could have been used as door hinges.

Tardis did it for me. Spray it on. Leave it while you make a cuppa. Come back and scrape the gunge off with a credit / debit / membership card. Wipe. Once more for the last little bits. No more than 15 minutes each.
