My Sunroof drain on the drivers side is leaking, tested with water into the drain hole from the sunroof. I have all the photos so will try tomorrow, however many people have talked about cutting the "Ducks Bill". I understand that this is underneath the car but can I get to it without removing the engine protection cover.?

Whats the best was of cleaning out the pipe.?

The "duck's bill" is not to do with the sunroof drainage but the plenum drainage. The sunroof drains are weakly joined at the back of the front wheel arch and accessed from within the passenger compartment. The n/s is behind the fusebox and the o/s in a similar position at the right hand pillar.

They generally clog up with silt, which then forces the water to leak into the passenger compartment. Careful cleaning of the joint area in both directions, then seal using "plumbers tape".

Initially I would say don't worry about accessing from the wheel arch.

Good luck.

Each to their own I suppose, but a piece of good wire, coiled and wound in and pulled out, but not too ferociously. Rags and plastic at the ready. Once you have cleared the internal pipes then you can push the forward section into the wheel arch.

When I did my drains I purchased from Wilkos a length of curtain wire for a £1.00 ideal for this job.

Hi Karl.
You will find the ducks bill or sunroof outlet tube with claws, inside the wheel arch liners as here in the photo's below, cut off the end after or even before you have done the sunroof tube mod.

As you can see you can also cut the end off the inner wing drainage tube at the same time

I/we recently used the same passage hole to send some wiring through to the inner fuse box on a car with out the sunroof drain tubes,

Page 3 post 21 at the bottom the link is there cheers Arctic

PS remember the ducks bill in the wheel arch

PS the plenum tube can be accessed from under the car if it is on ramps, and you do not need to remove the under tray.

Ah, not meant to mislead, sorry, I've never seen a full duck bill on those I've checked.

HI Karl.
Our pleasure it always pays to read the whole thread Wes came up with a good idea, with the filler tubes as most of us may have them lying around. Arctic
