Wish I was closer to Lates too . My car is booked for the cambelts job this Thursday in a garage near Paris (southern suburbs). The car will be staying there for 2 days. I was told to expect a bill in the 1100 Euros (all included parts+labour).

€1100 is about £1000ish at the current exchange rates.

£500 for the work by Lates still leaves £500 for fuel/tolls/ferry & accommodation charges. Plus you'll be able to stock up on the way home with english produce you may not be able to get in France!

Win Win situation!

I think Lates would do the job in 3 hours even with blindfolds on, having seen them work ! I suppose it is a matter of having two persons working on the car, and also doing so many, the job becomes completely familiar and routine with no need to refer to any manuals or whatnot. And also having the special tools and knowing how to use them.

There are six reasons for traveling to Rugby for me.

1) For a 6 year / 150.000km service I was quoted for 1,5 to 2 day’s and € 1.600 to € 1.800 here by at least 3 ex. Rover dealers.
2) Too many bad experiences by our local ex. Rover dealers I have tried several but not found one who can compare to Lates, not even close.
3) I only want people working on my car with a certain “respect” and “devotion” if you like. And who don’t see me as a “walking wallet”.
4) Last year I have seen a 75 serviced by Lates and his team, and that’s the first time I saw a “Formula 1 team” that close.
5) Lates does no house visits for service to Holland.
6) Free tea.

1 Reason NOT to go to Lates is the bad bad bad bad wheater. Does that include rain? Bud he promised me a sunny day, so we will go anyway.

For the reasons above we go to Lates, and after the 75 is ready we make a short trip to see the South of England or Wales again or just where the sun is on that moment.

Rob.
