That's a bit unfair Steve. I'd hoped that my post was very helpful as it pointed out that you might have been better off in the long term by taking your car to Trikey, both in terms of care taken and price charged. It also highlighted the value of making mistakes and learning from them, which we all do (including me) constantly throughout our lives, and become more skilled at dealing with life's problems as a result of the experience.

By the time you've finished moaning and groaning about the missing undertray and how you are going to get back at Halfords, you could have bought and fitted a replacement

The fact is, a garage who sees a car cobbled together with cable ties is going to assume that the owner isn't that particular about maintenance, and even if they did charge £500 for the job, what guarantee is that of a job well done....none I would say

Now given that £500 is quite possibly a weeks wages in a well paid job, why entrust work to spanner monkeys where the parts cost is on a bad day for what you've had done £150, leaving a £350 labour bill for what is in effect a three hour job at the very worst case scenario.

You claim to only have an occasional day off work, as was evidenced by your other post wanting someone to carry out a diagnostic test on your car today at the drop of a hat, surely even two days taken from a holiday allowance, and carry out the work yourself would have been financially better????

I actually have little, no I'm going to rephrase that, I have absolutely no sympathy for your situation you have put yourself in.

Just buy another one, and fit it yourself, assuming you can be bothered to do that given your work life balance issues.

Perhaps he can't do the work himself?

Perhaps not, however a short trip to Stourbridge to see Terry at TS Auto's would have ensured a job well done and at a sensible price.

There are no shortage of Rover specialists in that neck of the woods, and simply to select a garage based upon the fact you have to work 20 hours a day, seven days a week doesn't cut it with me.

I'm afraid I don't know the op's personal situation as well as that. I'm sure it seemed a good idea at the time, as it does with us all when we ask ourselves why we did something.

Blimey Marinabrian...!!!

This is supposed to be a friendly forum that's set up for enthusiasts to discuss matters of a 75/ZT nature.

The original poster, Anon3, was just looking for some advice on how to approach a situation he finds himself in. Equally, his other thread regarding a possible T4 session today was an equally polite request, which as he states, was something of a long shot.

If he works long hours, then I say good luck and well done that man.

I'm not one to get drawn into slanging matches, but on this occasion I'm sure I won't be the only member to suggest your comments are not entirely helpful.

I agree with Sonic , we are a group of people with a common interest who enjoy meeting and helping each other in a friendly community. You comments do not come over at all friendly on this matter .

The short trip you suggest isn't that at all, as Stourbridge is a mission from where I live.
And no, there really aren't many Rover specialists in my area.
God knows I've asked often enough.

That said, I wouldn't expect any sympathy from you, as that's the sort you are; always right.

Do me a favour and just keep your nose out of my posts and I'll do the same with your constantly arrogant tosh, eh?

They are not particularly helpful I agree, but a little foresight and planning on behalf of the OP would have gone some way to preventing this situation.

While I agree a job should be well done regardless of where the car is taken for repair I also think that harping on about how badly done to you are when you entrust work to be carried out by a garage chain with an extremely poor reputation in the main, when there is a veritable plethora of actual specialists in the marque in and around the west midlands is simply a moan too far.

When a garage is presented with a fifteen year old car where the undertray is secured with cable ties, rightly or wrongly they will assume it is simply a fifteen year old banger.

Hopefully Steve will get his undertray back, but at the end of the day although annoying, it's not the end of the world.

Perhaps next time, he might wish to use a decent workshop, and not have a repeat performance.

Perhaps a UK map of specialist garages could help ?
