Default Duxford

Off to Duxford Air Museum today. Bit of rain today so seems like the day to do it.
Been meaning to do this for years!

Time machine back to 1940...

Fabulous pic of your car and the Lanc Chris.

Was there much activity at Coningsby?

Default Awesome Day

Just got back to B&B after a fabulous day at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. A fantastic place. Great exhibits and a much wider array of aircraft and army vehicles than I thought. I will post a few photos later.

Highlight of the day was tge unexpected flying of 'Th Grace Spitfire' that flew a few times today taking people up for a flight. It is a two seat Spitfire owned by Carolyn Grace and restored to flying by her abd her late husband. An inspirational lady indeed. I was very priviliged to meet her in person today. The obvious pride she has with her Spitfire is clear to see.

Another first for me was seeing a Meschersmit BF109 flying over and giving a few fast runs at low level and a few take off and landings.

All in all a very memorable day. If you get the chance to visit Duxford take it. Well worth the effort.
Back to sunny Lincolnshire tomorrow and the grandchildren to keep me busy.
( and of course some time at the base to watch flying!)

Chris

Cool

My late wife and I used to work at Duxford many moons ago. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Wonderful museum. Meet up at sometime.

What a sight.

Chris
My Dad's ex Bomber Command and I took him there for his 80th 13 years ago. Back then they allowed members of the public to go on the taxi rides and he did 15 mins in the rear turret. Funnily enough he'd worked on them but had never been in one on the move until then! They reckoned it was probably airworthy but as the costs for the necessary certificates was steep it was being held in reserve in case something happened to the Lanc in the BBF. When they fired up the engines you were allowed to almost stand under the wing tips and the power and sound was jaw dropping. An awesome aircraft and so were the crews and those that kept them flying. We owe them a lot

Default Me too

Totally agree. Awesome planes and equally awesome air crew.
I too have been under a Lanc doing power run ups. I was shaking for days! What raw power.

You can still get a ride in Just Jane the 'other ' Lanc. Very costly about £600 IIRC.

It is their intention to return to flight. A rolling programme to this end is underway. Will they get there? who knows but my bet is that the CAA will put obstacles in their way. Would be quite an achievement.

The East Kirby Rover Meet is a fantastic event and well worth travelling to. That was my 3rd in a row but first time I Entered my car.
