I've also checked the earths, cleaned and refitted with no improvement.

If the front is glowing, then surely the rear should too - are they not on the same circuit?
Does it light up as normal, when the side lights are switched on?

Bog standard with the exception of ZT wheels and exhaust, Cant see that being the trouble

Mmm, they had to be really to be able to detect a lamp failure.
would snip the wire at the back of the LSM and see if that cures it. If it does, likely the output transistor has partially shorted.

The LSM has been disconnected and the fault remains the same.

then it must be a short in the loom.... if you unplug the lsm then one wire is in the air with no ground or voltage... it must be shorting across from another supply...
