I intend to do it as you have mentioned Ross, but I thought it would be easier to thread the copper pipe through the grommets in the bulkhead without the self sealing union on.

Looks like you're cracking on well, top marks for the B&B clutch too. Lovely and light when fitted, not so much when fitting.
BTW, your slave is indeed factory fitted. Anything afterwards was metal piped (as a rule).

Day 3
Massive thanks to DAS68 who sacrificed alot of his own time today to help me with this task. All the nightmare stories about Lower Ball pinch bolts came true today. I remember Simon H saying it took 12 hours on one bolt, I can fully understand what he went through now. All the heat penetrating oil on repeat cycles with repeated smashing with hammer and turning with a breaker bar and impact socket managed to eventually get one off in a battered unreusable state. The second one was even worse and the bolt head rounded off, resulted in grinding the head off the bolt and drifting out with a punch. This resulted in both lower ball joints eventually being released, the cost was 6 hours solid work from me and DAS68 , 2 lower bolt joint covers and 2 pinch bolts.
By this time light was failing fast when we got on to removing the box, the subframe was lowered quickly and we got the gearbox to engine bolts out. The box is now pryed an inch from the engine and supported but not yet sat on the subrame and accesable for slave as it should be. We were stopped by poor light and hopefully after a good nights sleep I will be able to pull the box away and get it correctly sat on the subframe. Unfortunatly I did not manage to take any photos today as 90% of the time was wasted heating and hammering pinch bolts to no avail and when we did get to getting the box out the light had gone. Any advice or tips on pulling the box back single handed would be appreciated, as I was struggling to get the box off the dowels and sat on the subframe. Also a whats this picture? (where does it go back). In the failing light while clearing up I found this on the floor: http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps1668a887.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps68165be3.jpg Any help or advice will be gratefully recieved, respect to Andy Willi and he deserves his clutch god tittle , to do this in under 4 hours on a drive is a phenomenal feat in my eyes. DAS68 I will be dropping some red wine off when you get back from Southampton at the weekend as a thankyou for your help today. |

Cheers mate, I thought we would have got the box out today but those 2 bolts where the devils own! I don't recognise the bit that was on the floor and I didn't see it when I was down under the car.
I think you have a full days work on the box to get it moved out, slave in, plate in, then another day getting the box back on, bolts in, starter on, system bleed, engine bay built back up then another day to get the front end back on, that sees you done and on the road by the end of Saturday, I am around Sunday, a bit hung over and smelling of curry from Saturday night but I am game for another day if needed.

Day 4
Today I managed to drop the box on to subframe, These pictures show how far away I dragged the box and the clearance I needed to fit the clutch plate and more importantly for me the space to feed the slave pipes through and get it seated properly.

I feared that may be the case but was trying to ignore it, I need a car for Tuesday and this is beginning to turn into a nightmare. In hindsight it would have made more sense paying Andy Willi to do it than having a go.
If any one else is thinking of doing this them self and want to turn the car round quickly I would recommend using Andy as this has taken my whole week of restdays after 7 night shifts and is just not worth it. My back feels similar to whiplash after lugging the box about and ive got the constant worry that the bearing guide shaft or fragile slave are going to be smashed in the process. Now I may have to take the box out again as I cant seem to get it to sit properly and the final kick in the teath is that ive got unlucky with the DMF and that needs doing as well. Not sure what to do now, it makes sense to change the DMF but sourcing one and getting it and the box back on with a knackered back by Tuesday seems impossible. |

Well done Steve for having a go at this; Ive been following your thread with interest and the photos are really good. Really nice of fellow member Das68 to offer a hand too in your time of need. After reading your account I realise that this is a job that is just beyond my capabilities-and then some!
Sometimes when you get to a bit of a dead end on a job I find its best just to sit back and take stock-sleep on it,even, and then approach it from a new angle in the morning. Its always much worse when you have a time constraint and you could do with outt he added pressure-but with the support of great advice of fellow members on here ( not to mention hands onhelp from das68) Im sure it will all come fine in the end.
