I seem to remember the same thing. BMW were concerned that it was completion for the 3 and 5 series the German press highly rated the 75

I was also told by a guy at Longbridge that there was a sour taste in their mouths when BLMC pulled out after the end of MGB production just after dealers had spent money on showroom upgrades etc. There was also a huge cost involved with any re-launch.

I have a picture somewhere of the 75 with side markers in the end of the chrome strips so I guess the US was considered for a while.

I believe that BMW also canned the launch of MGF because they were afraid of competition for the Z3.

Just reading about importing a car to the US is enough to make me cringe. It gets easier, once a car is 25 years old as it then becomes pretty much safety and emissions exempt.

No. 16 of only 52 Nocturne Blue 75/ZT ever produced. ONLY TEN of these were ZT 190+

terreneuve - a member on here owns 2, currently in a lock up in the Sates, until they get old enough to import into Canada...... But they are I believe missing their ecu's

There was another one, from the same batch that went there for cold weather testing that is still there. When Rover collapsed the engineers took the ecu's and flew home and just left the cars behind...... not sure of the full story, but hopefully John will fill in the rest.

There is one in Florida, think that it is owned by a Mexican National, and one in Texas ripped to shreds by the DEA at the Texas/Mexican Border.

The threads relating to these are buried in this Club... somewhere....

Then there is this one......

With a ZT-T holding the World Land Speed Record for Estate Cars (sorry, Tourers) - achieved on the salt flats - I would have thought there would have been an eager market for Tourers in the USA. No doubt a "Bonneville" special edition could have been produced to capitalise on the success. I dare say the Germans would have then entered the competition too - so perhaps it would have been a short Indian Summer, like the success of BSA at the Daytona 200 in 1971 - The Year of the big Wins.
