I did ask them about the cars history and whether it had different coloured boot etc. ( politely pointed out this could increase its wow factor to some but could put others off- and should be stated in the listing) . got this reply that interestingly they didnt copy in the listing "could be- as it was registered to MGR beforehand"

Mine is #27 and has at least 2 prototype parts on it (trim surround to gear lever is gloss black plastic, V8 badge on boot lid is thicker (chunkier)), so it could very well have some.

As i understand it 1-26 were all or in part hand built by the SVO department, each built for specific reasons, some were destined to be crash tested, some to work out the logistics of the production line, some to become Director's cars and the very early ones simply to see what was possible. The later the VIN the closer they are to the production vehicle, some have some unusual specifications too - either fully kitted out (Director's car) or not quite SE spec (like mine, most of the toys, but Matrix seats - for longevity, mine was destined to do lots of miles - it was a long-term test vehicle), or very low spec (crash test cars).

Some very interesting information here - this is the first time i have come across #25 and it seems to have had a very interesting history.

Another early car - perhaps a sister to the eBay one?

This one is overpriced and the plate isn't worth over £2500

I can help there as I bought it

It is definitely VIN 25 (last two digits) and has had one owner (the Ebay seller) since sold to him from MGF in 2006.

The front end was red (stone-chips give that away) as mentioned and the main body was green with a black respray (not a great one as noted by Keith). I would imagine the front was taken from a car destined for export as there is a receipt from a local dealer stating "converted headlights from left hand drive" in 2006.

I am not an MG expert, I only found the car by chance as I was looking for a decent sized estate with a decent sized engine and this one seemed quite rare so I went for it (and it was only 40 miles away), I only came across this forum when I Googled the reg number last night (possibly should have done that before bidding ).

It appears to run OK but I will get it serviced/checked over shortly, the only thing I have noticed is the rear door (tailgate) does not close correctly on the offside, it stands proud of the main body

If there is anything else I can provide information on from it , please let me know and likewise if there is anything I should be looking for that would be appreciated.

Regards

Dave
