Changing one pump out of two is never a good idea.. I think you need to replace the under bonnet pump. If you get one from Jules and fit it yourself it not a major issue..

If in doubt, take the new pump to the nano meet and get help with it..

Thanks very much for the advice all of you, I will get myself a new under bonnet pump, but in the meantime, keep the tank as near full as I can afford with today's fuel prices and keep my multi meter in the car so that if it does cut out I can check for a supply to the ubp.

Many thanks again.

If both pumps are displaying the same fault at the same time and work again at the same time then surely this points to a common electrical link to both pumps not faulty pumps, either a fault in the electrical circuit or a fault which tells the ECU to shut down the pumps.

AH...Now that's a theory I had myself. Next time it does cut out, if it does, it is something that I will try to check. Last time it did die, it was too noisey to hear if the in tank pump was running due to traffic.

One things for sure, you tend to drive with more caution if you're not sure your car will get to your intended destination.

I am considering getting rid of the car for another one..... a later model 75 without the ubp and the diesel guzzling webasto heater. I must be a fool, but these motors are lovely to drive.

I had a ride in my daughters Honda 1.6 vtec Civic, ultra reliable Japanese motoring, but at 70mph a lot more cabin noise than my 75 and the ride cant compare.

If only the 75 had the reliability of the Honda....perfection.
