Our insurance last year was £305 and the renewal just arrived asking for £666 (lucky number that!!), internet was £576.... so far.
We only bought the car as we thought it would be cheaper then hiring a car every term to drop our daughter off at Uni. Now with tax and insurance the hire car route is sounding better and better.....
Shame I have grown quite attached to the old girl Just have to drive more to reduce the cost per mile!

I also had a barney with swiftcover over the insurance cost. It was £335, but i moved 2 weeks later and they charged me £85 extra, i wouldnt mind so much but its a better area and it has secure parking! I told them to drop it or i would cancel and switch, luckily because i was still in the 14day cooling of period they did, after much complaining.

Cost of road tax on a 190? How much extra do you think you'd be paying?

The tax bands for brand new high performance / large cars looks frightening £900+ for a New Range Rover - so I guess in this respect good secondhand motors will hold value?

I got a quote a couple of weeks ago for 2.5 ltr Range Rover DHSE £400
which is nothing when you look at what some are paying for a R75

Its an extra £90 over the CDTi, road tax is an especially big bugbear for me, so the extra adds insult to injury. Its a silly cost and the roads are terrible.

I have always said that road tax should be abolished and an appropriate amount added to fuel prices. Then if you use more, you pay more.

Hey, my Dads Supercharged Sport on LPG does the equivalent of 25mpg if driven carefully. But of course, you don't buy a 460bhp Overfinch tuned rocket ship to drive carefully Mind you, it does have to carry full off road kit plus 20 inch all terrains At £300 a corner,it's a good thing they last long I don't think people will stop driving, because no one wants to use public transport, as it's so badly maintained, old, slow and just so inconveinient after a car/motorbike. And it's sooooooo expensive anyway it's just daylight robbery! (Or at least, it is in N. Wales, dunno about the rest of you) Mr Osbourne could make fuel £20 a gallon, there would still be people driving, less people, but there would still be a lot. Most of us want the cars that much, we'd find a way to finance them. Even if you think you wouldn't, you probably would.

Range Rovers will always be expensive, I've got one, my Dads got one and has had 5, and my Mum has one too. I've got a P38 4.0 HSE a 2001 model registered 2 days after to govts. cut off date for the new road tax increase plans. Grrrrrrr! So if I keep mine, I too will be paying £455 a year like my parents in thier Supercharged/TDV8 ones!!!! Nuts!!!
