Ah - I see what you mean now - I think those are branded as Tesco 'Express' - we have a few of them near us - they are established Esso stations where Tesco took over the shop part.

Cheers,

S.

Filtering
The process of preparing the waste oils for use in diesel engines starts with the filtering of the waste oils through a 20 micrometre filter. This is done with the raw waste oil in order to remove the largest particulates from the oil.

Mixing
The raw waste oil is mixed with new diesel fuel to a ratio of 50/50, heated up to 160 °F (71 °C).Or mixed with petrol but not heated. This helps the old and new oil to blend and to flow better for the next step.

Filters
The heated or mixed oil is then passed through progressively smaller size filters for added purity and safety of the final product. The filters start at 15 micrometres and can be as fine as 1 micrometres.

Product
The final product is a petrochemical fuel that will burn in most non common rail diesel engines with no modification.Or at most, the addition of a lift pump. However, this fuel may be "heavier" (that is, more viscous) than normal diesel fuel and may not flow properly in colder climates. As of 24-03-2012 Blackdiesel costs around 30c per liter to produce
Thanks for that... I didn't find that info..... That's why more research is always good before jumping in.

Thanks again

I use biodiesel from a supplier in Glasgow, car drives fine.
It is a little slower/less responsive, but that's not exactly a hardship as the car wasn't made to be a circuit racer.

My friend Stef on here, has ran his 01Y 75 on biodiesel from the same supplier for years.

He's never had any issues.

Well, I know it's all about horses for courses, but if my car was a 'little bit slower/less responsive' it would be a big issue/hardship in my book, and I would not be describing the it as 'drives fine'.

If you're happy then that's fine - but there's no Bio100 going in my tank.

Default Supermarket diesel

I used to work in the oil industry 20 odd years ago when the supermarkets first started making big inroads into the forecourt end of petrol retailing. Whilst the supermarkets more often than not drawed fuel from the same stocks as the major oil companies the big difference was that when the tankers were loaded at the refinery or oil storage depot no additives were added to the fuel to keep costs down. The additives include detergents to keep the fuel system clean. I have never and will never put supermarket fuel in either my petrol or diesel engined cars. Most people who have taken my advice have reported an increase in the MPG figure to the extent the extra cost of the fuel per litre is justified. Also as someone had already said I would only use fuel from a pump from a recognised supplier. I have seen engines ruined by the use of laundered red diesel, that is red diesel that has had the red dye and colourless marker removed from fuel not for road use (which pays a lower duty) by organised crime gangs.

And yet people are willing to run on LPG, which produces up to 20% less power, for the sole reason of less running costs.

For the 42p per litre saving, I'd be willing to lose a little power..
