Its better than nothing coming out of the Longbridge plant.. not ugly but not pretty. The interior is its biggest let down after the poshness of the Rover 75

I agree, and hopefully more to come. I don't think that it is meant to be a replacement for the 75. Think of it more as a new ZS. The new MG 7 and possibly Roewe 750 will fit into that role.

Well they have just announced that the name for the MG6 Fastback (the version in the pic) will now be called,,,,, wait for it....

The MG6 GT ,,,, LOL think they should be taken to task under the Trades Description act for that one.

Take 2 doors away, make the back sloping, loose the family hatchback look, stick a better engine in it, and then called it a GT!

True , stretches the imagination a bit, "GT" maybe it means something in chinese .....personally i think its a Chinese interpretation of a MG....not a actual mg as we know them....probibly 99% chinese parts, but assembled here.....

so how do the above comments apply to VW applying GTi to the Golf (5 door) or the Vento / Jetta etc etc????

I've had a good look at the Saloon version, it looks very good indeed!!

I think the GT is now thrown onto cars due to the gt giving it some kind of super car status.....but if you look through history of cars i should imagine 99% with the gt or gto have 2 doors also .
Gran Turismo is Italian for Grand Touring or "Grand Tourisme." in reference to the Grand Tour. The GT naming tradition comes from Italy, eg. Alfa Romeo and Ferrari named often their cars as Gran Turismo. 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT was also one of the first cars to have such name. The GT term has many variations like GTI, meaning Gran Turismo Iniezione (Grand Touring Injection), first used on 1961 Maserati 3500 GTI. The Volkswagen Golf GTI (1975) was first mass produced car to have such name. Other variations of GT are GTE or GT/E (Einspritzung, a German word for injection) used in Germany, GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato) meaning homolagated car for racing (used by Ferrari, Pontiac and Mitsubishi), GTA (Gran Turismo Alleggerita) meaning lightened GT car, GTAm (modified lightened car) and GTV (Gran Turismo Veloce) meaning a fast GT car, to which i have had a few over the years ......

Poor stratagy. No one wants a GT now days unless its a diesel. A "ecoboost" badge or something insurance friendly would have been fine.

They are making a bigger mess of this than they did with the 75 launch.
