i dont mind them at all but haveing worked on some i dont think these are the future they arnt that efficient alot of power is lost in converting the current, and when they spin to fast they use most if it to slow itself down as there is a big DC brake in them, untill they turn out of the wind a little, tidal energy would be better i would have thort

I also like to see them but agree that they really aren't a long term solution.

I'm 46 now...thinking 30 years hence, I expect that's 'long term' enough!?

I must admit I like them. As long as I can see them but they are far enough not to hear them , I rather like them.

In my opinion looking out at an empty sea is about as boring as a view can get innit..

And looking at an empty horizon isn't any better than looking at the windmills..

It will look much better when the weather warms up and the girls come out to play in their bikinis innit..

What about the little ones Dan? Some of our friends are using them out in the bush where there are no grids to rely on.

Sorry, but that just isn't going to happen.

They each produce 1mw of power and are only 20% efficient. So most of the time they aren't producing power and are a waste of space.

Big power stations produce 2000mw. To reliably produce that amount of power you'd need (theoretically) 10000 of the things. Can you imagine how much space that would take up? You'd probably have to cover the entire British isles in them.

When Drax is going at full chat, it will produce 4000mw which is enough to power millions of homes. That probably takes up a few square miles and is much less of an eye sore IMO. Better still, Drax, ferry bridge, egborough, fiddlers ferry and quite a few others have been doing it for 50 years. I'd like to see how those wind turbines fair after 50 years of running.

The only reliable way to create electricity is to warm water up and shove it through a turbine.
Because the government have basically banned the use of fossil fuel, nuclear is the only way forward

i dont know enough about them to comment, but i whould have thort around the same lines, you lose a fair bit as you have to convert the DC power form the turbine to AC though inverters and capacitors i would have

I always thought they should paint the blades muti colours. You know just like the hand held wind mills you had as a kid. More fun then.

Thanks Reece,a vindication of my hatred of the things Particularly as we already have a nuclear power station supplying the National grid.
