@chrissyboy. I used to live on the edge of East Dulwich (moved out last month after 5 years) and loved the Indian restaurants. Oh, and the Sea Cow...

It's no wind up. Honest. The oil level on dip stick drops is below min (when cleaned) and nobody really knows why it reports so low. One nasty suspect is a piston ring (or many piston rings) burning it off, but is there any chance my dip-stick-hole-blockage-idea could hold some truth?

That's why I ask if its possible to get a blockage in the dip-stick-tube. That would explain a lot!! Can I safely shove a very long wire down there - I don't know what's at the bottom?

With no leak and no smoke, maybe I have 40+Ltrs swilling around in my engine block...

It's no wind up. Honest. The oil level on dip stick drops fast and nobody really knows where it is going. One nasty suspect is a piston ring (or many piston rings) burning it off, but is there any chance my dip-stick-hole-blockage-idea could hold some truth?
If oil is trying to come up the dipstick tube then the crankcase breather could be blocked and the sump pressurizing.
Could also, maybe, force some oil up past the rings and that's how you are burning it.

The tube won't block unless you weld up the hole.

Yeah that's my belief but the garages tell me that the block is passing their pressure tests.

In a healthy KV6 (without cleaning the dip stick) would you expect the oil level to be half-way towards the yellow handle/plastic-ring? In mine its really high. Its only when cleaning the dip-stick and putting it back in that there appears to be no oil.

Just changed the oil and filter on my car today. Used a pela pump.

You have to push the tube down the dipstick hole.
You won't hurt anything if you poke something fairly ridged down the hole to the bottom of the sump. Don't use a bendy wire cos you don't
need to go sideways when you reach the bottom.

I think when they say they pressure tested the BLOCK they mean the space ABOVE the pistons and not the block/sump.

Cool, thanks Colvert!

I'll ask a garage if they tested the crankcase breather first thing tomorrow

try -- taking the dipstick out and cleaning it 3 or four times, then see what the reading is.. I think your engine block is half full of oil by now!!
