![]() I sometimes use a monopod but only with my heavy lenses. When trying to take a shot of someing like a bird, a big lens can become very heavey after a while.

![]() Mine’s a Velbon UP – 4000, it’s a three segment, and collapsed length is 500mm extends to 1620mm, very sturdy and not to heavy.
No idea how much they cost, I got mine free with a subscription to Digital Photo magazine! And best of all, makes a good self defence weapon to carry around. Lol |

The important thing is that the monopod/head can take the weight of your outfit. Most cheap monopods are not up to the job (especially with a long lens on). The pros recommend Gitzo, but they are expensive. Most others like Manfrotto who do a range of monopods and heads with different weight ratings. One thing to consider is the extended height. Best if you can take photos comfortably standing up without stooping. I am looking at getting the Manfrotto 680B with the 234RC head. Medium price but has several recommendations. A good deal for this combo on ebay at the moment. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=008 Hope this helps, Colin |
