Yes they were a mechanical fuel injection,in standard form they were 125bhp from the 2.5 litre straight six but an upgrade was available at the time to up the power to 150bhp.

That was a lot of power for such a small car,the owner of the owner of the red 1969 car says that his is in the 125bhp form.

Early TR6s have 150BHP as standard, the 125 BHP cars came in late 1973 on, so the red one was originally a 150 car and the Mimosa one is a 125.
The TR5 was the first British sports car to have fuel injecton, followed quickly by the 2.5PI saloon/estate cars.

I believe that they were a very few TR7s with the Dolomite Sprint engine.

factory production and very few of them.

The 8V 2.0 litre unit shared the same bottom end of the engine of the sprint,it was considered an easy upgrade to change the head.

I can recommend:

Triumph Cars The Completer Story. Graham Robson and Richard Langworth. ISBN 0 947981 28 4

A good read. Quote -In it´s ultimate four-cylinder tune (16 valve Sprint motor) the rally TR7 had a 220 hp Don Moore prepared engine-

Swindon Racing used the TR7/dolomite 16 valve engine in international Formula 3 racing

Another quote:

-The v8 engined TR7 was not put on sale until the beginning of 1980, while the 16-valve Dolomite Sprint engined TR7 (which was also homologated for use in motorsport) was never put on sale at all, although 25 pre-production cars was completed!-
