I'd lean towards having car fixed. If the cost of running the the V6 is high then by all means get a cheap runabout for day to day use.
I have 2 motorbikes, both the same bike but one hardly turns a wheel. It is a back up in case the other ones breaks down and I needed to get to work. Now I dont use a bike to get to work I dont need the second bike but I cant bare to be rid of it . keep it, you know you want to macafee2 |

Fix it. If you sideline it with faults, it will get left and get worse! The only exeption to this is if you enjoy tinkering then it's a different matter and see it as a project.

I'm with the fix it and run it bunch. Especially the glorious V6. If you retire it or pass it on you'll regret it every day you drive its replacement. I know I do and I changed the V6 ZT for a diesel 75. Its just not the same without that purrrrrrrrrr.

I'm also at 155k (or thereabouts) and hope to double that in the next 4-5 years.
The issues you've mentioned sound fairly minor - swap out the driveshaft for a good 2nd hand unit if needed. They're usually very reliable. These old buses were built to last.

You can have the best of both worlds. I run Jag X type and Rover 75 Connie diesel estates and alternate them every 3 or 4 weeks. Plenty of time to fettle little niggles in between!

Yes that is one of my concerns. Unfortunately I do not have the time, space, knowledge or ability for tinkering!so I have to keep paying my friendly local mechanic to keep her up together and that doesn't include the little niggly bits!

Oil is just disappearing. No sign of a leak or burning. No signs of cross contamination with coolant. I am being told that it is just down to the age of the engine/car. The coolant leak is the thermostat.....again! She is already on her 3rd replacement and my mechanic hates replacing them!! Currently running with K-Seal to hold out a little longer before replacing it again. Despite replacing the clutch last year she needs another one. The kit I purchased was clearly not right as there is a horrible juddering/vibration every time you pull away (in any gear forward or reverse) so that needs replacing again with a better one. However I did replace the master with the metal version that you sell so hopefully that won't need doing again as well! The suspension is starting to groan and creak slightly and I just have this concern that as good as the 2.5 V6 is, at 155k she can't go on forever! Also with most of the driving I am doing being short motorway commuting on week days and narrow, pot-holed, gravelly country lanes at the weekend I am not really using her to her full potential, am potentially adding to her woes and am just constantly filling up the tank. And at @12k miles per year she is just racking up the miles. I have held very firm for the 10+ years I have owned her that I never want to get rid but realistically I live alone, am unable to do the maintenance/upkeep myself, can not afford to be without a car for work and have no back up. Hence why I am considering semi-retirement, getting a work horse and keeping her for the fun bits! I could also then potentially get the problem bits sorted without the panic of not being able to have the car off the road. But at the same time I just don't know if it would ruin her to not be used enough. Arghhhh! |

A sad sad day.....
After much umming and ahhing I have come to the decision that I have to sell my beloved ZTT
Advertising through the club first as I desperately want to find her a new home where she will be loved and cherished and not resigned to the scrap heap. It is just too good a car for that!! I can't actually believe that I am doing it but my head has to override my heart. Advert here if anybody knows of someone looking.... http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=249392 I am now off to rock and sob in a corner |
