All the above is sound advice. Always use a good quality six sided impact type socket. I tried it once without and it started to round. Swapped over for a slightly smaller imperial sized one and hammered it on worked like a charm( I was lucky). As always careful use of heat here is your friend. I replaced mine with new bolts complete with a smear of the modern version of copper slip- I forgets its exact name

hi
i've a clarke mains impact wrench. Fantastic bit of kit for loosening, too powerful for tightening. If there's room to get it on,there's a good chance it won't be there much longer. Bit of heat first helps. File it down so a good hex fits.

Been there, done that..............and got at least half a dozen sockets with rusty rounded off bits permanently imbeded in them

Has anyone got any tips for getting rusty rounded off nuts and bolts out of sockets

Please see my PM on the issue of bolts:

At work we heat anything that's seized to red hot then cool rapidly with water and it screws out easily

Correct, it's useless as a penetrating oil but they do do one now in a yellow tin and it works well

Thanks for the advice. I've got some Plus Gas on order for under a fiver delivered from ECP so I'll have another go when that arrives.

Today was grandkids followed by a thunderstorm so no chance for any car work.
