Not sure if your gauge is faulty as the commonly held view is that at normal running temp -and 84 seems reasonable for a diesel - the gauge needle should be at quarter to nine - others more experienced in the diesel will hopefully comment.

The gauge should be at 9.00, did you fit the correct inline stat?

Ordered my own inline stat today - my gauge sits at the very first line from the bottom of the gauge!
However - after a service (all filters , gearbox and engine oil changes) , today I had to refill - 54 litres and it did 478 on the previous tank; am I right thats just over 40mpg - pure urban miles as well. edit: 2005 , Rover 75 CDTi |

The stat was purchased from dmgrs, so I assume it is the correct one. Unfortunately I didn't check the coolant temp before fitting the the stat but the gauge has moved from 7 to 8 oclock so some improvement.

My V6 ZT on Thursday last suddenly told me I was getting 33.9mpg (the pixels had just had a fit) r45 minutes later we were back to the real world? at 27.9mpg-bit like sex "nice while it lasted" Chris S.
