Hi and thanks.
Short answer - dry. Have a look at this little video. Rupes is one of the absolute top notch manufacturers in the detailing game and what they don't know about polishing isn't worth knowing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txh-t6IrcSQ. And something a bit more general but very well worth watching https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/thr...thread.281047/ And if you get the bug come over to https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ and see what's going on there (yes, my username is the same and there's a fair few of us on here that are on DW also.). Cheers. Last edited by AndyN01; 6th July 2022 at 12:34.. |

great videos for a newbie like me. thanks andy. been looking in my shed for some detailing products. found : 1. bilt hamber white clay bar (new still in box with powder coating.) 2. maguires ultimate compound 3. autoglym resin polish. 4. autoglym shampoo. 5.Tub of " big white " high temp paste wax. 6.bottle of primo amigo sealant. All unused and unopened... got some microfibre seamless wipes on order too. The clay bar states water lube only needed but i may add a little shampoo in my spray bottle as well. Once i have clayed the whole car , and corrected whatever paintwork required, with my DA polisher , do i have to correct again lightly with the primo amigo (which recommends on the bottle DA application ? ) and then will i be able to apply the wax by hand ? Am i in the correct order of play , and do i have adequate material types ? I have also ordered a lambs wool rupes pad for buffing /wax for the final act ... your guidance would be apreciated, learned alot about technique from the videos and will follow that again ...

Cheers .
You've got some nice products there. OK, as with most things the key is in the prep. A soaking in an All Purpose Cleaner (APC) to get off most of the muck is a good start - maybe I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here . Then shampoo, then clay while she's all nicely wet and lubed with the shampoo. The Autoglym will be fine. Personally, before the shampoo I'd use some fallout remover to shift iron particles from the paintwork. It's simple and quick and you'll probably be surprised just how much is imbedded in the paint and especially on the wheels. I use this: https://www.car-chem.com/shop/iron-detox-fallout. You might need some tar remover too - you don't want tar anywhere near your polishing pads . You'll probably need a good rinse off and maybe a quick re shampoo. The last thing you want is bits of muck left on the paint for the clay to pick up and spread around . I'm a big fan of Car Chem as they are actual manufacturers and are just down the road from you in Nottingham. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-SEoFFnB0Y. Maybe lock up your wallet first . If I remember correctly the Amigo & the (super) resin polish are very similar so just go with their instructions and yes, apply the wax by hand - it's a very good product. Enjoy yourself and Good Luck. |
