Thanks very much Julien. That reinforces my findings earlier this year. My tensioner pulley (also the original, like yours) was not seized but the bearing was distinctly rough after a similar mileage to your car.

It just goes to show that it's all very well renewing the belts every six years but it's the tensioner pulley (and idler wheel for that matter) which is the real ticking time bomb, and that isn't given a mention by MG Rover in its information to dealers.

I've inserted some high-temperature flexi hose into the bends on mine just to make them less rigid and prone to snapping.
