Did you fit an after market UBP if so they tend not to last long or a very noisy, a pierburg original will be silent and last 100,000 miles or more.

I had the same thing, years ago, and it was a faulty ECM, due to having been wet at some stage in its life - but I'm guessing you've checked that...

Pierburg and TI Automotive are the OEM supplies for R75 and ZT’s if you buy a Pierburg from eurocarparts and open up the box you will find a TI Automotive pump.
also rimmers supply TI Automotive as OEM.
Many of the last 2 pump system cars from factory had TI Automotive pumps.
Work perfect 3.7bar and very quiet. Cheap aftermarket pumps sound like a swarm of bees buzzing underneath the bulkhead and often only produce circa 3.5bar
Tested so many I have lost count.

The fuel pump relay tends to be very robust, the fuel pump relay output driver from the ECM, well that's a different kettle of fish altogether.

That is the first thing that tends to fail when an ECM has been swimming

I fitted a Ti pump to replace the original Pierburg, as it was becoming noisy, cheap aftermarket pumps are cheap for a reason........buy cheap, buy twice.
