You could probably get an acceptable flat head one at a hardware store, but the dome head one would not be as common. If you have to drill your own holes in the spring seat, then maybe the hole in the recess that requires the dome head bolt could be drilled someplace a bit more suitable for a flat head bolt. You can also make your own self-tapping bolts by clamping the hex head in a vise and cutting a slot a little way up the threads in line with the bolt shaft.

Failing all that, maybe check the breakers yards for a 75 that has the kit fitted and get those bolts.

Cheers,
Glenn

I'll message him shortly - he had Bones arm anyway for the engine. How is your engine doing? Any news?

I'm afraid self-tapping and self-drilling are two different things. In this case the holes are pre-drilled by the installer, so all the screw/bolt needs to do is make its own threads in that hole. I would think the spring seat material is substantial enough that it would take a very long time for a self-drilling screw to bore its way through it. The self-tapping screw would likely have what is called a "Flute" cut into the threads to allow the screws threads to cut their own threads into the material of the spring seat. Here is an example of the type of self-tapping thread flute I am referring to https://www.lowes.ca/screws/the-hill..._g1566194.html . Granted that picture is of a wood screw, but the metal self-tapper is the same. For sheet metal - even thick sheet metal like the spring seats - cutting your own flute in a bolt or screw's threads will do the job. There are other types and even one that looks to have a "drilling" tip, but it is the threading action that is important.

The original bolts in the kit actually have a finer and very tapered thread. It is hard to see on the picture on the .pdf, but I think you can just see the flute cut into the side of the thread as well. Sorry, I can't post a picture, but the recall .pdf is on here somewhere.

Cheers,
Glenn

Hi Dawn, I have two sets of protectors (still not fitted) but have new springs on Mo so she can wait. If I take them to PoL is there someone I could give them to there who could bring them to you?
Adrian.
