I had to use the screwdriver as I didn't have a pair of long-nose pliers (they went missing ) when I came to swap my mirror backs over.
Will agree that the plastic clips are very brittle - especially the chrome ones, more so if the mirrors are old. Perhaps it might be wise to warm them slightly to make them more supple? Suggestions? |

Two questions:
1. How to pop the little plastic cover off the stanchion without chewing the cover up? (Paul's pic below of a chewed-up one refers - borrowed from this thread http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=32937) Answer: poke a screwdriver in halfway along the longest side and lever the cover off - still leaves a mark in the plastic though. 2. Can the mirror pod be removed from the stanchion without taking the stanchion off the car - i.e. can the wires be disconnected? Answer: No! The wires run through to the inside of the door, so presumably the whole door card has to come off. Last edited by Simon W; 3rd September 2009 at 11:43.. |

A feeler gauge (anybody still use them?) does the job without "advertising" if you are careful.

I tried a feeler gauge Paul - the fatter ones were too fat and the slimmer ones just bent without doing anything. In the end I drilled a hole in the plastic and popped it off with an allen key. The hole now has a 6mm grommet.
