In fairness I was seen and examined a number of times in A&E. Because of my symptoms they wanted to rule out a brain bleed, so I was taken for a CT scan within the hour. It was the nine hours of just lying there after that which were harder to endure, plus the subsequent unnecessary extension of boredom and lack of sleep/recovery on the ward itself. If nothing else, I was for the majority of that time taking up a space in A&E unnecessarily, as a course of action had been decided on and I was now just being monitored until a bed was available.

This isn't a criticism of any of the paramedics, doctors or nurses I encountered, all of whom - despite the clear fatigue even I could see in some of them, those in A&E especially - were without exception kind, courteous and obviously very good at their jobs.

I agree with the advice to look after yourself now. I've been in a regular fitness routine for nearly four years now, and am pretty careful about what I eat. Didn't fancy the prospect of developing diabetes or having a stroke in my 40s! I'm working on the assumption that things could have been even worse had I not been in reasonably good shape.

It's not just the NHS which comes up with highfalutin terms for simple things.
Our local council have decided that when they are trimming hedges back at the side of the road, the signs warning motorists should NOT read "BEWARE hedge cutting" - or similar.

No, no - some clown has decided that the signs should read "Highways Vegetation Management Works in Progress"

Another example of the amazing NHS and their complete ineptness at times.
We took a relative to the AE ten years ago. Despite being told this relative was pregnant they still carried out xrays etc that are not suppose to be done when pregnant. In the end they diagnosed her with very bad acid reflux that was causing the cramping so forth... well no.. she was having a miscarriage!!

I personally have had good and bad. Despite the strong medications I am on, that are suppose to carry health checks every 6 months for blood pressure and other stuff, In the entire 4 years of being home from the USA, not once has the GP checked any of my vitals!! Get you in and get you out as fast as anything.
On the other hand, I have met some decent doctors who took the time. NHS is like old cars, all hit or miss on quality.

Then I had to lie there waiting, staring at the ceiling & wishing I was still asleep for another four hours until a doctor saw me. Same routine every day.
It's not that I'm a lazy so & so - I would normally be up and working soon after 7 even on a weekend - but I have to say it was one thing that I found very frustrating. If someone's sick and they're sleeping, let them sleep!!
Yep? They are that thick you get woken up at ten o clock at night so you can take a sleeping pill, bunch of tossers.

Ah but, he crossed himself as he said it!

We all go on about the NHS but where my wife comes from (Philippines) there's no NHS, if you are ill and don't have money you are in trouble. There are free hospitals (charity run I think) that offer extremely basic healthcare, if you want/need more than that you have to pay for it.

If he was anything like my dad there would be a few choice words said too .

I nearly spilt my coffee over my laptop when I read it

I always remember when I was in hospital after having my right kidney removed, being woken up at about 2am, in order for them to give me an injection in my bum to help me sleep!
