Default Sorted

It took a long time to get this sorted, but finally the solution was discovered.
Some excess travel was removed from the throttle cable, but the biggest improvemnt was when the Auto Gearbox software was updated. Although it had been regularly serviced at the main dealer where we bought it from, the GearBox ECU had never been updated since initial load in 2000.

Nick at Austin Garages in Burton on Trent downloaded the latest software (2005) and this has turned Primrose into a ROCKET! Effortless acceleration, higher top end, nice engine tone when accelerating. A real pleasure to drive

Sorted at last

Andy

I've had the V6 for 6 or 7 years and never really noticed the performance issue untill I got the diesel which made me realise how slow the V6 is.

Has anyone else come across a similar problem with the V6 being a little sluggish? Or is mine just in need of a darn good tuning? Or is the deisel just a lot faster?

What is this "latest software (2005) upgrade for the 2.5 V6?
I have not heard about such an upgrade here in Oz. Is it a Rover or Jatco (manufacturer of the auto) product? Is this programme readily available through the (former) dealerships?
My 2.5 moves off briskly from a stationary start and generally performs well. But the one thing that annoys me is the delayed response when accelerating from a traffic necessitated dawdle. There is a definite delay in its pick-up. But once the car has interpreted my command it moves forward with gusto.
Would a systems upgrade rectify this delay?
Cheers,
Egremont.

I found my car performed better after I went and had something done at Executive Motoring Services. It was a little lower on MPG for a bit but after that the whole car was a little smoother. The T4 did say it was updating something. Now it makes sence.

Also my 2.5 KV6 is still pulling at 120 mph and I chickened out at 135 mph but I swear there was a little more in it.
(This was on a disused runway and in no way violated the law.)

Very interesting topic Andy.

Is there a way to find out what software release is uploaded in your auto box? Or can you help me with a telephone number of the garage? Then I will phone them.

Rob.

When my car was connected to the T4 it came up and stated an update was available straight away. It needed to do this prior to making the changes that I had asked to be done.

Perhaps I should have explained a little better, when my local Rover servicing specialist connected the T4 test diagnosis computer to the car, it reports back the condition of all of the engine management and control modules (ECU), any errors recorded and the last version of software installed.
During the production of the 75, there were several updates to the control software for the Jatco auto gearbox (up until 2005) which should have been undertaken at service intervals by the main dealer, mine didn't get upgraded for whatever reason, but since getting it done the effect is stunning.

You need to find a service center with a T4 testbook computer. I suggest that if there is an ex rover dealer or possibly a Land Rover service department near to you, they should be able to sort you out.

Regards

Andy

You will need to find a service center with a T4 diagnostic computer and the MG Rover software.

You can also have the configuration of your car changed at the same time, eg: one shot windows up/down, lights on/off settings, in fact a whole list of options. See other threads elsewhere on the site for details.

Likewise with me. After HGF in January the specialists in Bradford noted that I was due a software update through the T4 and duly downloaded. Can't say I notice any performance difference but I can now play "Call of Duty 4" through the ICE..........
