Mine has been doing that recently. sometimes it cuts power completely, but I have found that if I fiddle with the battery lead where it connects to the main fuse panel it comes back on. It is sporadic and I have removed the nut and cleaned the contacts which stops it for a while but I suspect it is a dry joint on the battery lead. BTW it's an 05 cdt.

As prev stated, the test is very simple. When it wont turn over, get someone to hold the key so the ignition is on, then tap the starter with something metalic, if it starts then get the solenoid kit..
The rain was coincidental and unrelated to your problem, but it always rains when your car wont start... heh heh... . Last edited by James.uk; 21st November 2009 at 14:34.. |

The piston in the solenoid is sticking and not moving forward to make connection with the contacts.. A sharp rap will often unstick it if it is trying to move. i.e. being activated by turning the switch at the time.
Solenoid refurb Kits are on ebay for about £12-50 including postage.. . |

done it again tonight! just got home, parked up, everything went dark. Fiddled with the battery lead, all back on. No corrosion visible, all contacts appear tight.
wierd. I will replace the battery lead methinks. |
