If you want MPG go and buy a Fiesta 1ltr not a 4.6ltr V8

In truth because there is no depreciation on these cars you are spending less money annually that you would be driving a Mondeo or BMW unless you are doing 24k miles a year.

The fuel cost is far outweighed by the grin factor anyway.

I had the pleasure/privilege of delivering one to it's new owner, well over 450 miles. As an experiment on most of the journey I cruised at 60 on motorways, brim to brim showed 31 mpg.

I'll admit that on the odd occasion on safe clear roads, I floored it, awesome sound and kick in the back and that's what the V8 is for.

If I could afford one I'd buy a V8, drive it like an old lady some of the time and when circumstances permit, I'd be a boy racer again.

No point in buying a V8 if you put mpg above the throaty sound and exhilaration of right foot down.

They're great fun, especially when a Beemer or Audi owner is next to you at the lights and thinks I'll show that old Rover and you see them in your rear view mirror.

So back to the OP, if you can afford it, buy it before some one else does.

I used to get that with the Omega I had, no badging to give any clue as to engine size, all it had on the back was Omega at one side and Elite at the other. It was the 3 litre auto, prod the sports button and the thing turned into a projectile, left many an overambitious herbert in my mirror.

Is there anybody out there for V6 or V8 MG's? I read the post on insurance but looks like its possible for around £400-£500 ? Any other advise on buying one? Thanks Paul
Paul, my advice would be to actually test drive one

Make sure you drive at 30 MPH and lift off the throttle, then gently back on to experience the transmission lash, also I would be tempted to do some low speed maneuvreing, ie 3 point turns, preferably in damp weather to see what you think of the hop "skip and jump" effect

They are OK in a straight line on a well metaled straight road.

I can view these without the rose tinted spectacles that most V8 owners will always wear.

They are a reasonable lash up, but are not particularly pleasant to drive, and the electronics in the cars, and this includes every single V8 produced are stamped "Production Sample Prototype, not for production use"

That being said, they do have a huge smile on your face when you flash them up, if not at every other fuel station.

Brian has brought up some valid points in the V8 but you either love them or walk away. I really liked my one from the point I first bought it but now it's supercharged it's a different ball game, the 260 suits the charger conversion

I love mine, but I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. I find the 'feel' of the car superb, and the sound deeply satisfying. There is transmission 'lash' but you learn to drive around it, 3 point turns no problem, electrics on mine, no problem. It's a specialist car, not a shopping trolley, treat it as such and you'll enjoy it.
