ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE

Join the club… well, my street’s quite quiet, but still the issue with no garage etc. Also, if I break something (which is very likely), I’m stuck with no car, miles from anywhere I can get parts etc.

I remember trying to take my wet ECM out a few years ago. It was in the middle of a bitterly cold winter’s evening, everything covered in frost and snow, me with an LED torch between my teeth, fingers frozen solid and my mobile stuck to my left ear with BigRuss on it, patiently talking me through removing it. Oh, and holding the bonnet up with my head, as the dampers are dodgy.

I’ve found a very helpful garage who will happily do jobs for me to my own instructions, kind of thing – eg fitting 2nd hand door mechs, new gold fan resistor etc for their normal hourly rate, and they do the jobs quickly and efficiently, so it doesn't cost too much.

Sometimes it’s better to admit defeat and take the easy way out, spending a few extra quid for the sake of your nerves!

Yes I need to remember at times I'm not the only member who struggles for a decent location, sometimes I honestly feel that it can't be any worse. I think my problem stems from being on a ship and everything is so easy and accessible then having a workshop on hand, when I am at home I get frustrated with being so used to one work environment and then not having one and I always think if this was on a ship it would only be a 10 minute job lol

I used a local garage last year to do my crankshaft pulley as I knew knowing my luck and working in the street I was going to have problems with it, I supplied a new pulley and the garage renewed it for 30quid....saved me from having a guaranteed nightmare....so sometimes it is easier to take the easy way.

I've just spotted your post, apologies mate, designed by HELLA but given specifics by MGR... the person responsible for final approval of the designed units obviously didn't have customers in mind lol
