Many thanks to Brian who at very short notice hooked up his T4. A quick look at the live data and swap of the coil with another spare I had cured the issue. I should have either swapped the coils or tried another before troubling Brian but it was nice to have a natter and find out I also have a duff balance Vis. Oh and yes after just over a year since fitting a water tight stat!

I should have taken a picture of the position of the Herbie clips while we had the engine cover off

Never mind though, at least it's no longer running on five cylinders

Checked and swapped plugs around
Swapped coil"

Good Result!
I wasn't as lucky. I had a misfire on cylinder 6.
I changed the plug, then the coil, then the wiring to the ECU with no change. Not wanting to believe the ECU was the problem I replaced the cam and crank sensors. Just my luck, the new link lead I bought with the cam sensor was DOA so had to get that replaced, but in the end the ECU was duff.
ECU replaced and it has run well for over a year.

Unlucky!
How did you replace the ECU being in Canada? Were Rovers ever sold there?
Did you have to reprogram the thing?

We don't have Rovers here, but we do get Range Rovers and Land Rovers.

Cheers,
Glenn

This one was on my Freelander. It has the North American spec Siemens ECU which is different to the ROW unit. As it was tied to the immobilizer it isn't possible to just swap in one from a scrap car (Even with the immob you end up with the history of the donor car which isn't good) I bought a used ECU with matching part numbers from Ebay USA and sent both of them to an ECU specialist in the UK who cloned the history from the old unit onto the replacement. It worked perfectly. In the end it cost me about $800. rather than the $2000. + $1000. programming a Canadian LR dealer would have charged me for a new ECU. Not that they want to work on a Freelander anyway. There is too much money to be made with Range Rovers which are selling like hotcakes to our rich Chinese population.

BTW: I am still looking for a ZT. I just passed on a Japanese car as it needed more paint repair than I was willing to do. A friend brought by his Dutch market 75 the other day and that got my enthusiasm up again. He will be bringing his ZT by in a couple of weeks to tease me.

If moving the coil and plug doesn't move the problem you have either a duff ecu or a sticking valve?
I think I'll give up...
